Not the best Hawaiian plate lunch joint but certainly not the worst, Huli Huli Hawaiian Grill is a dependable spot for some meat and carbs, albeit in an odd location.

I ordered the barbecue chicken and fried shrimp plate (about $9) and 2 spam musubi (a little over $3) and it all came out to about $14 with tax. Like many restaurants in the L&L vein, the chicken was tender with a teriyaki glaze and the shrimp (I got 3 in my order) were jumbo sized. In addition to rice and potato mac salad, underneath the protein were steamed veggies... the typical cabbage, broccoli, and carrot mix.

The spam musubi here has the seaweed wrapped in the middle, instead of most places in Cali where it's wrapped all around. If the rice was mushier, I'd say it's a pretty close replica to the regular musubi you'd get at 7-Elevens in Oahu, my personal gold standard for spam musubi.

Only thing that's a little odd about this place is that, in spite of being called Huli Huli, the namesake huli huli chicken is not served here. What a shame. It's right next to Pioneer Chicken, so maybe it's worth doing a budget meal two-step for variety? In any case, the value is good enough for a repeat visit alone... I'll be back!

On the search for a good spot within walking distance from our house, my roommate and I gave Huli Huli a try. I've stopped by there for their horchata smoothies (huge, great if you like sweet sweet drinks) and spam musubis previously but never ordered a meal.

They have a variety of meals, combos, bowls and snacks to choose from. The older Asian couple making the food and the younger girl that took our order were all pleasant to interact with and the restaurant was clean for the given space (old plaza). It has a bit of a hole in the wall feel, but for the money you pay, it's a fairly good deal. And you get a lot of food!

I ordered the BBQ Chicken and Katsu Chicken meal that came with two scoops of rice and mac salad. The Mac salad was more potato salad with macaroni in it (not a bad thing), the katsu chicken had panko breading that was light and crispy (not greasy) and the bbq chicken was good as well.

My roommate ordered the pineapple chicken and it was really saucy and sweet which is a must for some taste buds. Veggies were freshly cut, and the rice was good as well.

Recommend stopping by for your bargain Hawaiian/Japanese/Chinese food that won't give you a stomach ache.

Amazing food and their Jamaica is off the chain and huge! It's the best I've ever had!
I love this place! Large portions and totally affordable! The food is so yummy. When I'm back in the area I'm coming back!

Been here a couple times when I order out. Like that they take phone orders, and are pretty quick with them. I haven't had a bad experience here yet so I'll keep dining here. Only tip would be Food is good but in small portions because they are very generous with the salt.

This place is very difficult to find. It is in the basement of the building. If you see the Coffee bean you go towards the middle of the building where there will be a door leading to a subterranean mall in the basement of the building. Huli Huli is on your left.

I had the chicken teriyaki. I liked it. It came with rice. I wanted some mac salad but it wasn't an option with the plate lunch.

    The service was very friendly.
